You’ve probably noticed the black‑and‑white “B” logo on well‑known brands like Tony’s Chocolonely, Innocent Drinks, Aesop, TOMS or even newspapers like The Guardian, with increase of purpose driven companies the UK is now home to more than 2,000 Certified B Corporations, making it the world’s largest B Corp community.

What Is a B Corp?

A Certified B Corporation (B Corp) is a business that meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Unlike traditional businesses that prioritise only profit, B Corps commit to balancing:People, Planet and Profit.

The certification is overseen by B Lab, a global nonprofit network whose mission is to transform the economy so that businesses benefit workers, communities, customers, and the environment

Why B Corps Matter?

The world’s biggest challenges, such as climate change, inequality, environmental degradation, and systemic injustice, are too complex for governments or nonprofits to solve alone. B Corps use the power of business to create positive impact, reshaping the global economy through responsible practices.

By putting people and the planet alongside profit, B Corps work to benefit all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

How B Corp Certification Works?

To become certified, companies must complete a self-Assessment. This is a rigorous evaluation of a business’s impact across seven key areas:

  • Purpose & Governance

  • Climate Action

  • Environmental Stewardship

  • Fair Work

  • Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI)

  • Human Rights

  • Government Affairs & Collective Action

Businesses must achieve a minimum score and provide evidence for their practices, making the certification one of the most credible sustainability standards in the world.

What Are the Benefits of B Corp Certification?

Becoming a B Corp is more than earning a badge. It can deliver real, measurable business value.

1. Builds Trust With Customers

Customers increasingly want to buy from responsible brands. The B logo is a clear, credible signal that you walk the talk. In an area of ‘greenwashing’ and misleading marketing, the B Corp certification provides reassurance to customers and consumers that the logo is a marker of trust.

Many buyers, partners and investors now look for strong ESG or sustainability credentials. They look for businesses that are walking the talk, which is one of the most important aspects of B Corps. The Certification helps B Corps stand out in tenders and partnerships, as it demonstrates the rigorous certification process to evaluate a company’s impact.
